Bakers Everywhere get ready for National Pie Day~January 23rd, 2009!
No matter how you slice it, “National Pie Day” (WOO HOO!) is one of the sweetest days of January!
That’s right, you read it here first! The American Pie Council is the only organization dedicated to preserving America’s pie heritage and promoting America’s love affair with pies! Mark your calanders becaue this year the holiday falls on
Friday, January 23rd, 2009!
Is it wrong to be excited about a day like this?
NO!
Did you ever see the movie Waitress? No? Look at the trailer below. This movie is not only based on life decisions, but the comfort foods we choose to help us get through the decisions we make. Namely, pies. I actually went on a little pie kick after seeing it, (baking, not eating), they made it look so easy, and it is. I love the little song she sings to the baby, “Baby don’t you cry, gonna make a pie, gonna make a pie with a heart in the middle…”
I wanted to post this now, because if anyone reading this is planning on vacationing, lives in or knows someone in the Orlando Florida area and is a pie lover/maker/eater…then get your recipes ready boys and girls, because the 2009 APC Crisco National Pie Championships are being held at the Ramada Orlando Celebration Resort and Conference Center in Kissimmee, Florida, April 24-26, 2009.
Now I know you look at something like this and say, “I can bake, but I never win these kind of things.” Shame on you! Have faith in yourselves! This is the Amateur official entry form, it is due by April 09, 2009. Here are the official rules. There is also Professional, Commerical and Juniors, kids ages 14-17) so the entire family can participate! I know, you say, “I would love to go, but my hubby doesn’t go for this kind of stuff…” I can fix that too! Enter your hubby as an official Judge, not only will he get to taste some of the most decadent pies, you’ll also receive a reduced hotel room rate. HA! now I covered all issues, getting there will have to be up to you!
Need some practice? Want to cover the basics? Watch this How-To YouTube video. Sometimes actually watching someone making the pies is more helpful than just reading it off a recipe card.
And here is a site named, Treat a Week Recipes for you to practice with incase you don’t have your own.
View the American Pie Council website for more information and all official rules. Plus, sign up free to become a member and have access to recipes, industy “pie” charts and resources and more! Sorry, the only thing I don’t see that offered on this site, is the pie earrings, you’ll have to find them on your own.

I was singing the “gonna make a pie” song, what little I could remember, for quite a while after watching Waitress
Now you’ve put right back in my head… thaaaaaaaaaanks!
i love how she sings it too! I’ll probably be singing it today!
