OUT with the old and…
2009 seems to have started off well for me, as I hope it has for all of you. I am in a positive frame of mind, I was able to catch up on the laundry and I am motivated to move forward!
The first thing I need to do is clean out the closet! We all just need to follow a few simple rules, (and I hope this gets you motivated as well!):
It is also helpful to purchase a few hangers and storage bins before hand. I also like to purchase sachet packets and put them in the bins. I rotate my seasonal clothing and keep them sealed away, fresh and smellng wonderful!
1. If it is stained or torn get rid of it. I mean not worth it to mend and the stains won’t come out. No more saving just in case I need a rag or something.
2. Be realistic, if it doesn’t fit…donate it! Out of date…donate it! Planet Aid has donation bins everywhere! You can also sell the extra clothing items on eBay and donate money to charities that way.
3. Shoes: still good, just need new souls? sturdier, reinforced heel? DON’T THROW THEM AWAY! Who has money to buy new shoes every month? It may suprise some of you to know that an age old profession is making a come back…Cobbler! Shoemaker! That’s right, people are actually bringing it back to the age of repair and Shoe repair businesses are feeling a positive revenue flow. Click here to read all about it from Indystar. Do your own search and see for yourself!
BTW…If you have good leather purses that need new straps or lining, the shoemaker may be able to fix them as well.
When the closet is finished, the next thing to do is paperwork! It’s time to fill out all my rebate forms and mail them in before they expire: You can check for your rebates here!
Hewlet Packard rebate page. HP 2009 Inaugural mail in rebate forms
$130.00 mail in rebate form for Peachtree by Sage Home Accounting Program.
MacAfee Internet Security 3 $20.00 mail in rebate form.

Congratulations! You’ve been nominated for the Lemonade Award!

Hello Momma,
Don’t worry, I have taken no offense I enjoy reading the different perspectives only when they are well written and without any vulgarity, I enjoyed yours a lot. I guess with he article I was lazy at the moment I wrote it I was going to write something more wide, but not because of lack of knowledge but by mere laziness I didn’t complete it.
Still, thank you very much for sharing your opinion.
Gus
Thank you for the welcome! I love your site - always trying to find ways to improve my budget and help others.

How cool. I used to take my heels and boots to a shoemaker. Now, I live where there isn’t one. I hope they resurface here in Appalachia.

Moving to a new place seems to be an especially good time to clean out the closets. I donated four boxes of clothing, including warm coats, to the Amvets. Considering the very cold winter we have been experiencing, I’m glad that someone will be nice and warm in those coats.
Great article! Glad to see the cobbler is back in business. We have to save and repair instead of just filling the landfills.
Bonnie
Great tips! Thanks!
